Which drum heads are better: Remo or Evans?
My heads are pretty much dead. I’ve been using Remo, and I like the sound, but they don’t seem to last very long. I’ve been hearing both good and bad things about Evans from lots of people. Which one is better? Or is there something else I should go for that’s better than both? I play metal, mostly, and I’m looking for a snappy, sharp sound. I’m not on a budget, so cost doesn’t matter.
What kind of Remo heads are using? If you are using Ambassador heads..then that explains it all. Remo Ambassador heads for mostly for Pop, Jazz & light Rock drumming. They are single ply, real thin and can snap eay if you are a hard hitting drummer. I would NEVER EVER recommend using Remo Ambassador heads to a Metal or Punk drummer.
Try using using Remo PINSTRIPE or EMPEROR heads.
They both are durable & great for metal drumming. They can handlethe the abuse. I’m a rock/metal drummer & a really hard hitter. I’ve used Clear Remo Pinstripes for over 15 years & didnt have any problems with them. They are 2 ply just like Emperors are and can handle the abuse metal drummers dish out.

Look very closely at my old Tama Superstar Drum Set pix and you’ll see they are Remo Pinstripe heads aon all my Toms, and Bass Drums too. I can’t break them so that why I use them.

I’ve tired Evans drum heads on other kits, but I dont like the tone on them. I dont like Aqaurian Drum heads either. Too “dull” sounding in my pinion. Remo Pinstripes are very bright and Emperors are very dark in tone. You get that “BOOM” and “THUMP” tone with them. they also have good rebound to them too when you hit them.
