Could someone please clarify the use of thermal paste in CPU installation?
I’m about to install a new motherboard on a system that I’m building, and I’m confused about the instructions that I’ve received regarding the application of a thermal conducting paste. The instructions that came with the paste plus several other sources indicate that I should apply only a tiny amount of the paste, and that if I use more it will cause the CPU to overheat. If the paste actually conducts heat away from the CPU to the heat sink, why would that be the case? It sounds like it should be the opposite. Thanks.
because the paste is not as good as a heat conductor as metal too much will cause overheat , though if your using a stock heat sink it should be pre-applied to the bottom of the heat sink , then you don’t need to do anything. use that link after you get it up and running to check cpu temp normal idles are btween 30C and 45c.
